Sidwell Friends captures DCSAA Track & Field Championship

The Sidwell Friends boys' track & field team captured the District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) championship on May 22. The win in the two-day meet, held at Dunbar High School, was Sidwell's fourth DCSAA championship of the year and the third in the span of a week.

The Quakers finished with 118 points, finishing ahead of St. John's College High School (108.5 points) and third-place finisher McKinley Technology (107 points).

It was the team's second DCSAA championship, the first coming in 2019. The team also won this year's Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAC) championship on May 10.

The Quakers got off to a quick start on the track Wednesday, with Justin Yarborough '26, Osewe Ogada '26, Langston Hill '26 and Omar Burik '26 setting a school record in the 4 x 200-meter relay with a time of 1:30.74 and taking second place.

On Thursday, sprinters Noah Warren '25, Hill, and Burik finished second, third, and fourth, respectively in the 100-meter final.  Warren set a school record in the 100-meter final with a time of 10.80 seconds. Burik and Warren took first and second place in the 200-meter race with times of 21.75 and 21.88—both personal records.

In the 4 x 100 meter relay, Clayton Gary '25, Burik, Hill, and Warren combined to run a winning time of 42.57. The 4 x 400 relay squad of Yarborough '26, Ogada '26, Medlin '26, and Hill took fourth place.

The Quaker team was especially dominant in the field events both days. 

Clayton Gary '25 was named the meet MVP with multiple record-setting performances. On Wednesday, he set a meet record with a victory in the long jump, reaching 23' 11". He set another meet record in the triple jump the next day, with a jump of 47' 10.25".  Gary was also part of the winning 4 x 100 meter relay team.

Sidwell's Ian Condon '27 won the shot-put competition on Thursday with a throw of 50' 1". The day before he took second place in the discus with a throw of 136' 06".

Eric Green '28 and Joseph Amprey '25 took third and fourth place in the high jump competition.

"I could not be more proud of this team," Head Coach Michael Cooley said after the meet. "We benefited from some tremendous performances and we showed great mental toughness and grit. Our seniors also provided important leadership. I want to congratulate the entire team and coaches for an outstanding season."
